Here’s the thing. Facebook says now isn’t the right time to post this. It’s 2 am as I’m writing and posting, and everything I know about blog strategy says that I should share this tomorrow during peak hours of engagement. But that’s not MY strategy here. Viral isn’t always the goal. Right? It can’t be. Sometimes, we just post for the one person who needs to read it right when they need to read it. And for me? That feels like right now.

How many times do we say that when we share something? “Maybe someone out there needs to hear this, or read this, or laugh at this, or see this, too.”

Some ONE.

It feels like everyone is focused on growth right now. So many ways to gain more, make more, become more… you just need the right information and to know the right people and you’ll be able to:

* double your traffic
* increase your followers
* get more leads
* secure more involvement
* grow your numbers

Meanwhile Jesus is like… Hey guys, let’s stop for this one.

Let’s stop for this guy in a tree.

Let’s stop for this lady by a well.

Let’s stop for this blind guy.

Let’s stop for this desperate woman.

Did He speak to the multitudes? Yeah. Often. Lots. Did He train His disciples to speak to the multitudes? You bet. They learned from Him too, and after His death, 3,000 were saved in one day because they had watched Jesus so closely and were filled with the Holy Spirit.

But did Jesus also stop and teach them how to reach the person right in front of them? You had better believe it. And they learned. And they did what He did.

They reached down and raised a crippled man to his feet.

They healed the man sick for eight years.

They brought a dead lady back to life.

Bloggers? Entrepreneurs? Lady Bosses? Hustlers? Friends?

Listen to me. Don’t miss the person standing right in front of you because you’re so focused on trying to stand on her shoulders to reach the next ten.

Growth is good. It’s Kingdom work. It’s the reason that Christianity moved past the twelve disciples… But.. Relationships are the currency of Heaven. And if growth comes at the expense of losing the chance to connect with the people in front of you? Well, you just have to decide which is more valuable to you.

This approach to blogging or leading or “bossing” isn’t for everyone. But it is everything for the one you reached.

As always,

With Love – Becky

In 2013, I was a stay at home mom of two small children, and I had forgotten what it meant to be me. I hear how cliché that sounds. But it’s true. I spent of my time taking care of everyone else, and rarely thought of myself. I didn’t sleep. I barely had the time to eat. I was running on fumes and too much coffee… and then one day I walked past the bathroom mirror and thought, “Sister, you need some new clothes.”

That’s probably not where you thought this story was going. Right?

In sincerity, if I hadn’t been wearing maternity shorts (the ones with the giant elastic belly) I might have let my appearance slide. But since my youngest was two years old, it was probably time to find some actual pants.

I can hear you now. She’s talking about pants. What does this have to do with blogging or writing books?

Hang with me. I promise this story is good.

See, the maternity shorts are the reason this whole thing started. Because while the big elastic belly jeans encouraged me to go shopping, a dressing room with a two and three year old said, “Don’t even try it.” So I went shopping online. #Momhacks

Anyway, I ended up buying an outfit from this internet boutique and meeting the owner of the boutique via email. I had shared a photo to the boutique’s Facebook page for a customer contest, and I guess my selfies are pretty awesome, because the owner emailed me asking if I was a fashion blogger. I think I was wearing black athletic pants and an oversized t-shirt when I opened that message.

I also think I hadn’t washed my hair in a week.

But guess what happened? The owner of the online boutique said she would sponsor me, pay for an advertisement on my website, and send me free clothes to feature if I decided to start a fashion blog.

Guess who became a fashion blogger that week?

No plot twists here. This girl.

It was a lot of fun… but I had no idea what I was doing. I made a lot of interesting blogging decisions in those first few months. But as it turns out, the blog became a place to share more than shirts. Fashion posts transitioned into articles full of encouragement, and I realized that maybe this was a way to connect with other women who felt just like me. I found my voice and gave other moms the words to express what they were feeling as well.

Four years later, over 20 million people have visited my website, I have authored two books Hope Unfolding and Love Unending with a division of the largest publishing house in the world, and I get to encourage other women every day through my website and social media communities.

My blog took my life in a direction I didn’t see coming.

Can you imagine if I had just let that idea go? If I had said, “I don’t know how to do it, so I’m just going to keep all of these thoughts to myself?”

I always say that the day before everything changes feels like just another ordinary day. It isn’t until we look back that we realize something significant was about to happen. I wonder if this is your last ordinary day! I wonder what is waiting on the other side of your blog launch. I can’t wait to find out!

“I love that this course was a wonderful combination of inspiration and real-talk. As a new blogger, I needed some help to sort through the chaos of the blogger world. Becky’s course gave me the clear direction I needed!”

“My favorite part of the course has been being a part of the Facebook community of course members, where questions are answered, encouragement is given, and connections are made, both with Becky and other talented writers. The overall support has been phenomenal.”

They walked in the door from school, took off their shoes, and immediately began fighting with each other. “Hey, guys. Let’s put our shoes away. They don’t go in the middle of the floor.” They weren’t listening. They were already arguing about who got to hold, well, does it really matter what toy it was? I’m not sure they really cared about the toy either. They were just looking for a chance to fuss at one another.

“Guys! Hey! Kids!” I shouted up to the playroom. “Please play nicely or you’re going to have to come down here! Kids?! Can you hear Momma’s voice?!”

But all I could hear were louder cries and arguing echoing down from the top of the stairs.

Some days, it seems like all I do is talk AT them. There are moments where I can feel my words bouncing back at me, none of them sinking in, none of them being heard.

And I repeat – repeat – repeat myself, and I find myself saying things like, “Well, if you had just listened to Mommy we wouldn’t have spilled that drink, or fallen off the step, or lost our favorite toy down the side of the bed.”

If they had only listened…

There are so many moments in a Momma’s life where we feel unheard, where our words don’t seem to matter, where the things that we have to say just become white noise in the background.

And it is more than just feeling as though our words are unheard. We feel unheard.

It’s easy for Mommas to fall into feeling that way. And it’s easy for us to lose our voice in other areas of our lives, because we don’t always feel like we have a voice at home.

But today? I get to be the one to remind you that your voice matters. You matter. The things you have to say, the thoughts and feelings and expectations of your heart, the fears, the concerns, the ideas that bounce around and need a place to land?

All of it matters. Because what you have to say is important. And there are people waiting on the other side of your voice. There are people waiting to hear what only you can say in only the way that YOU can say it.

So whether you blog about life at home, or to encourage other moms and women in similar situations, or you blog recipes and craft ideas, there are words that only YOU can say. And, friend? You never know what or who is waiting on the other side of your screen!

Keep talking, friend! I’m listening!

When I first began blogging in 2013, I had no idea what I was doing. I mean… I suppose that is not completely accurate. I knew how to operate a basic WordPress blog, because I was a photographer, and I kept a blog to showcase my work.

But I had no idea how to maintain a blog with written content, active readers and engaging material. I just didn’t have a clue.

What I did have… was the desire to share the things in my heart with adults. I had two very small children (I now have three) and I didn’t get to spend much time interacting with big people. My blog changed that.

I began writing under the name Scissortail SILK, and for six months, I shared outfits, recipes, and bits and pieces of my life with the hundred or so visitors I had each day.

…Until something crazy happened in January of 2014.

I wrote a post called, “To Wives: Before You Were Mommy,” and it went viral. I’m talking millions of views, nearly a million shares, and more interest in my blog than I knew how to handle.

As a matter of fact, my blog crashed from all of the traffic. There were so many things I didn’t know that I didn’t know. There are so many things that I have learned in the process. And that is why I have begun this section of this site.

If you are a blogger, or want to become a blogger, or are thinking about maybe possibly when you have time considering the idea of of becoming a blogger… I want to encourage you!

I will share things I have learned, host link-ups to get connected with other like-hearted writers, and I might even have a Q&A with my literary agent or book editor.

Like my Facebook page, or sign up via email to stay updated on new posts!

So glad to have you here, friend! I cannot wait to get to know you better!
