Becky, this is a topic close to my heart. I am one of those women “not out there” -sitting next to you at church, greeting you at school. My story is- 2 children- 3 and 10 months old, and had just found out we were pregnant. Very tough road with PND, PTSD due to nearly losing the 10 month old at birth, and then this happened. Shocked, disbelief and horror didn’t cover it. How the heck can we do this- will go actually crazy…. what will we do for $$ since I was on leave for a few more months…. what the heck were we going to do. In NZ you go to your GP-book a confirmation scan, then have to have counselling before you can terminate. The first step was confirming- give I was about 2 weeks only. Confirmed, then had a long month of waiting for the scan. A lot of tears, a lot of praying, and I felt very very alone. I didn’t want to tell people what we were contemplating, Hubby doesn’t believe in God so no praying together…. long story short, we trusted our hearts, and decided not to terminate, and we would just deal with whatever happened. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to consider- and i felt so alone. If we can remove the stigma- and slow people to talk together- it would be so much better- they may realise they have options not thought about- and will realise there is hope and support.
