I am so glad u posted this. We have two kids with this problem…the exact behavior issues! ALDIs has been our salvation on a lot of products. Why does it take a European based company to make these changes?

A sweetened red drink was a definite trigger for our son. Life was much smoother without it.

This post is 3 years old. The same age as my second son. Who, if you changed gender pronouns, you could have been writing about. He’s the sweetest little boy with huge blue eyes and a sunshine personality…until he doesn’t. He’s strong-willed as all get out, but sometimes it’s like something snaps and some kind of awful feral part of him comes alive and there is no calming him or reasoning with him. It can take hours to calm him. Sometimes he passes out from exhaustion after an episode and that’s what it takes to calm him down. And then my little sunshine boy is back, ever so remorsefully. I’ve never considered that he could be sensitive to food dyes, but it is absolutely something that I will be eliminating from our diets beginning now. I have been blaming his behavior on my pregnancy and the recent births of our twins, and the potential that it’s not, or not solely the cause of this behavior could be a game changer.

My sister and so noticed the same things. We started the Facebook page Red Dye Awareness for parents who might be experiencing the same things you and I did. One of my children reacts very badly to blue dye as well.

I came across your article and started reading. I totally agree with you. My now 9
Year old was affected by dyes. I had read a few articles when she was about 5 taking about the dyes. I decided at age 7 I had to try it. We tried it for the summer. I saw that her behavior had
Changed some. But then it came
To my attention that she had not had
Any bedtime accidents since we took her off. I searched online and sure enough others had the same experience. I had even took
Her to her dr and they said they didn’t start checking if something was wrong til she turned 9. I’m glad I didn’t wait. She hasn’t had any accidents since.

We went through this with our child as well. His dr recommended we change his diet and it worked amazingly! We still slip up at times, but I can tell right away when he’s had too many foods with dye in them and we bring the focus back in. I wish the food allowed to feed our children was monitored more closely by the FDA. It’s definitely challenging having to read all those labels.

This same thing is happening with my now 6 year daughter. We noticed it when she was about 3. I’ve had concern of the food dye issue, so my question is…what foods do you feed your children? 99% of all labels have dye in them! It’s astonishing! I don’t want to feel like I’m depriving her of certain things but still want her to feel like and be a kid, if that makes sense.

Thank you so much for writing this. My son threw up last night just like he did last week after drinking a koolaid drink and I was seriously questioning dyes last night. I feel this is God answering me 🙂
