Midnight Mom Devotional : November 27 Friday, November 27th, 2015
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:3
We have the stomach flu at our house right now. I will be honest. It isn’t how I planned on spending Thanksgiving Day. We canceled our lunch with family, stayed home, and just sort of made it through.
Having been up so much last night, today just feels like one big extension of yesterday… I have a feeling tomorrow might feel the same.
I think that is one of the truly hardest parts of being a new mom, or a mom who doesn’t get much rest at night. It isn’t just the exhaustion that comes from being awake, it is the endlessness of the cycle of days and nights.
But, friend, if I may, I’d like to speak just a little hope to your weary heart. The Holy Spirit is still alive in the darkness. As a matter of fact, He proved His strength when Jesus died, and the darkest death could not stop Him. He overcame it. He conquered it. The Holy Spirit rose Jesus to new life, and the same Spirit lives in you.
So while the night might seem long, remember this Truth. God does powerful things when the world seems its darkest. What might He do in or through you tonight?
Lord, thank you for your presence. I pray now for each person reading these words. Whether they are sick or in health, whether they are afraid or have peace, whether they are worried or they sense your comfort, God fill each heart. Send out Your Holy Spirit. Invade bedrooms and nurseries and living rooms. Flood work places and hospitals and every place from which that these words are read. Perform a miracle, Lord, as You prove that the darkness has not overcome Your strength. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
