This morning I was in my bedroom getting dressed when my son announces from the living room “Momma… Daddy’s on the front porch.” My husband is a pipeline welder and there are two certain days he doesn’t go to work. 1.) when it is raining and 2.) when it has rained so much he cannot drive to the job site. Well, hooray for muddy roads because, today, daddy got to spend the entire day with us! We decided to spend this beautiful day working on our forever project… our landscaping. We are making baby steps people and today our only plan was to go and buy a crape myrtle bush… tree… tree bush. This is a project for us because it is about 40 minutes from the nearest major (bigger than the city I live in) city.
The kids were so excited as we pulled up to the nursery. My son said, “I wish we had a tree in our yard.” – back story, we built our house on what used to be a wheat field and we have been slow to landscape. Well, that’s not entirely true. I seem to have done a fantastic job growing a beautiful crop of flesh devouring “stickers”… and my husband has done a beautiful job of growing grass of which a golf course could boast. So, this was an exciting concept to my kid. Bushes and trees at our house!
The place was pretty cool to start off with, but husband made the most important discovery of the day – dandelions.
We walked and touched everything we saw and pulled dandelions and even saw a bunny. Daddy discovered that one too!
But, I can’t give daddy all the credit for awesome finds. Afterall, I did discover the rollie pollies that lead to my kids uncovering every sprinkler drain they found to peer inside and look for more. This, in turn, led to a constant “don’t touch that” “there could be spiders in there” “yucky yucky” “quit it, baby” “mommy said, no!” “if i have to tell you ONE MORE TIME!” In retrospect, we probably could have done without the rollie pollies, but the kids were excited about them. And the hubs and I? Well, once I convinced my husband that the crape myrtle bush would in fact grow into a groomable crape myrtle tree… we were set too. A fun outing and then a fun day planting outside. Just one of those dandies of a day. Oh, and who says you have to look grubby just because you’re running errands? I took five extra minutes for myself before the leaving the house and came up with this.
I am loving the boyfriend jean trend. Paired with a slightly dressier top and you’ve got the makings of adorable easy errand attire. WITH LOVE.
