- 21 | Cleaning Products
Warning: Be sure to dispose of all cleaning products safely and as directed by each individual product’s company. We keep all of our cleaning products in an upper cabinet in our mudroom. That cabinet is home to laundry and dish soaps, carpet and furniture cleaners, general house cleaning solutions, shoe polish, steel wool, light bulbs, dusters and more. It’s cramped. It’s cluttered. There has to be a better way. I wasn’t even sure what was in there until I pulled it all out once the kids were in bed and sorted through everything. Take a minute to organize and properly dispose of your empty or unnecessary cleaning products to complete this step. Please use extra caution and make sure your children do not have access to any kept or discarded products.
- 22 | Entry Way
Our entry way can quickly become a clutter-haven to shoes, coats, backpacks, keys, bills and everything else dropped as we enter our home. Take some time and pay attention to the areas around your doors. This is your first encounter with your home every time you return. Move everything that doesn’t belong to a proper home. Throw away junk mail. Make coming home less cluttered.
- 23 | Keys
I have house keys. I realized this yesterday when I pulled down all of our keys from our key rack and decided to try and figure out what they go to. For the last five years we have been coming and going through our garage when we need to lock our home. Today, that changed because I went through our keys and realized we do have house keys! What secret treasures could you unlock? Just kidding. But seriously. What do all of those keys go to anyway!? And why are you still carrying them around?
- 24 | Outside spaces
Our sandbox looks like Sid’s backyard. That’s another reference to Toy Story if you weren’t sure. It’s a disaster – broken trucks, dolls without arms, forgotten army men. Why don’t we just throw it away? Take a few minutes paying attention to your outside spaces. Is there anything around your front porch or backyard you can tidy up? What about donate? Anything you can plain throw away? Do it!
- 25 | Vehicle
I don’t know about you, but I spend a lot of my day in my vehicle. It is basically just an extension of our home. But, most of the time, I try and close those van doors as quickly as I can so no one sees just how stinkin’ nasty it is inside. It’s gross. Let’s not talk about it. But let’s talk about it. Your kid mobile might be just as bad. To declutter your car, you need three items – a trash bag, a laundry basket, and a wet rag. Any old happy meals or fallen goldfish go into the trash! Anything that needs to go back into the house goes into the laundry basket, and when you’re done, the wet rag can be used for anything sticky or spilled. On second thought, maybe that rag should be a towel and a garden hose. So much sticky.
Well, I suppose this is where we clap or cheer or something. That’s all twenty five steps, friend! That’s all of them! But this is where the work begins. This is where we decide to really go and do some of these things! This is where we commit to trying at least one of them. You do hard things all the time! You got this! And this hard thing, just might make a ton of other hard things so much easier.
Merry Christmas, friend! Happy De-Cluttering! Please consider sharing if you found this guide helpful! And to say thank you for joining me, your free printable awaits.
So much love! Becky
