There are some things that you just cannot Google. I mean, I suppose that you could enter whatever search terms that you wanted, but there are certain things that even “Dr. Google,” and “Peace of Mind Google,” and “Am I Normal Google” cannot answer.
I joked with my husband for quite a while about writing a book full of new mom advice. I told him that I would just pull up everything that I searched for online and write what actually happened instead of what the search results forewarned.
For example, at three days old (I think my first full day at home with my son) I noticed that my son had a small blister on his toe likely from where his big toenail had rubbed inside of his onesie. I did what any young mom would do, and I Googled it.
“Treatment for small blister on newborn’s toe.”
Bad news. According to a few articles I read, his toe may or may not fall off. Worse news, Google was predicting Lyme Disease.
So, I called my pediatrician on her Emergency After Hours line…
“Hello, this is Becky Thompson. Yes. This is a medical emergency. *Through tears* My 3 day old son has a small blister on his big toe… I just needed to know if you needed to see him before Monday.”
Treatment recommended? Neosporin and some sleep for momma…
But seriously. That really happened, and no amount of convincing me at the time would have made me feel like it was not absolutely necessary to call the pediatrician at 10 pm on a Saturday night. Trust me, my husband tried.
We do the very best we can. Don’t we, momma? But other than health, the things that we worry about most can rarely be found anywhere online. We worry if our children are normal. We worry if we are normal. We wonder if anyone out there has been through what we are going through, and if so, did everything turn out okay in the end?
The overwhelming fears of our hearts are desperate to hear one simple answer…
“Everything is going to be alright.”
And so that is exactly what I need to tell you tonight. Everything is going to be just fine, sweet friend. I promise. Because Jesus reminds us that no fear can stand in His presence. Every worry must bow to His peace. He draws close to us in our times of doubt and continually whispers to our hearts, “My peace I give to you… Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”
He is with you in this moment. He doesn’t wait far off for you to call on Him. He waits eagerly for you to cling to Him as He holds tightly to you.
Listen to His voice of love, and watch as the fear begins to fall away.
I cannot promise that you won’t have to walk through what you are walking through in this moment, but I can promise this… You will not be left to walk through it alone.
Thank you, Lord, for continually speaking to our hearts. Give us ears to hear your voice clearly. In your Son’s precious name.
